  • Duties

    • Evaluate patient’s medical history to ensure tests will not cause harm.
    • Perform a variety of diagnostic procedures, such as X-rays, MRIs, CT Scans and ultrasounds to diagnose injuries and illnesses.
    • Use their medical training and expertise to diagnose patients based on the test results.
    • Communicate test results with the patient’s primary physician through a written report.
    • Provide accurate answers to patients and their families to ensure they understand the procedure.
    • Set up and maintain radiology equipment to get accurate scans and results.
    • Properly instruct patients to prepare in advance for imagining of the procedure.
    • Implement protocols in areas such as drugs, resuscitation, emergencies, power failure, and infection control.
    • Participate in research projects involving radiology.
    • Treat unwanted internal or external growths by exposure to radiation from radiographs, high energy sources, or natural or synthetic radioisotopes.
    • Recognize or treat complications during and after procedures, including blood pressure problems, pain, or bleeding.
    • Instruct radiologic staff in desired techniques, positions, or projections.
    • Document the performance, interpretation, or outcomes of all procedures performed.
    • Perform interventional procedures such as image-guided biopsy, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, and nephrostomy catheter placement.
    • Enforce standards for protection of patients and personnel.
    • Supervise and teach resident staff or medical students.
    • Participate in quality improvement activities including identifying areas where risk of error is high.
  • Education & Experience

    • Doctor of Medicine from an accredited medical school.
    • Completed a four-year residency at a hospital.
    • State licensure and optional certificate.
    • Has been board certified.
    • A minimum of five years of experience as a radiologist.
  • Qualities and Skills

    • Ability to use imaging technology to diagnose diseases.
    • Must have strong communication and listening skills to provide feedback to patients and medical professionals.
    • Must have strong data entry skills when inputting imaging data.
    • Strong writing skills are required.
    • Ability to manage time to accommodate all patients accordingly.
