  • Key Purpose

      To operate ultrasound machines and interpret images with sound waves of patients’ internal organs, which assist medical doctors, assistants, students, therapists, and other medical staff in diagnosing patients with the appropriate medical conditions.

  • Duties

    • Perform accurate ultrasound tests in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians.
    • Analyse test results based on ultrasound equipment, which are presented to physicians for diagnosis and treatment plans.
    • Assist gynaecologists in using ultrasounds to test for problems within the uterus, cervix, or vaginal canal.
    • Aid cardiologists in determining blockage of the arteries, veins, or heart.
    • Instruct patients regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results.
    • Follow prescribed safety standards in operating equipment.
    • Maintain ultrasound and vascular lab equipment in appropriate operating conditions.
    • Maintain examination rooms and work areas by ordering all ultrasound and vascular lab supplies.
    • Regularly perform routine maintenance on machines.
    • Maintain accurate department records, reports, and files as directed.
    • Maintain confidentiality of patients’ information.
    • Report directly to physicians to ensure a smooth communication process.
  • Education & Experience

    • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in sonography.
    • Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Ultrasound Technology program required.
    • Minimum of three years of experience.
    • RDMS certification in one or more of the following areas: Abdomen, OB/GYN, vascular, echo.
    • CPR certification for Health Care Providers.
  • Qualities and Skills

    • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment.
    • Ability to take vital signs and knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to sufficiently identify area of imaging.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, directors, and peers.
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage relationships with different patients.
    • Ability to use imaging technology to diagnose diseases.
    • Must have strong communication and listening skills to provide feedback to patients and medical professionals.
    • Must have strong data entry skills when inputting imaging data.
    • Strong writing skills are required.
    • Ability to manage time to accommodate all patients accordingly.
